Is three days in Livingstone enough?
Three days is the shortest stay we recommend, and it works beautifully when the pieces are sequenced well. Day one: a guided tour of the falls — 108 m high, 1,708 m wide and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1989 — with the evening on the water. Day two: Livingstone Island for Devil’s Pool from $159 per person in season (roughly mid-August to early January — Green Safaris posts updates), or a 15-minute helicopter flight from $230 when the pool is closed. Day three: the Chobe day trip into Botswana from $190.
Evenings belong to the Zambezi. The Lion King sunset cruise starts from K950 per person, the African Queen and African Princess from K1,200, and the Lady Livingstone — the deck we book most often for couples — from K1,200. What does a three-day package cost?
Our four most-booked samples all include two nights at the Avani Victoria Falls Resort and return airport transfers. Every figure is a starting-from rate, confirmed at booking and subject to operator availability.

What does a full week add?
Seven days lets Livingstone breathe. The falls and Chobe stay, and around them we slot what a short stay squeezes out: a 2–3 hour Mukuni Village tour from K500, led by a village headman through a Leya community of roughly 7,000 people; the gorge swing from K950; a one-hour quad-bike eco tour from $90; a two-hour Zambezi horse ride from K1,400; the game drive and white-rhino walk combination from K800 in Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.
Families rate the gentler pairings: the Livingstone Crocodile Park, about 10 minutes from the falls with some 70 rescued Nile crocodiles on raised walkways (closed Wednesdays), from K350, and the Elephant Interaction — a calm, supervised meeting with a rescued Zambezi herd — from $95 per person.
Two bookings need the calendar’s cooperation. White-water rafting in the Batoka Gorge runs in the low-water season from about August to December — Livingstone’s Adventure describes it as the highest concentration of grade 4 and 5 rapids anywhere in the world. The Royal Livingstone Express steam train, from $220 per person, departs on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with Mondays added in peak season.
How does a fortnight look? Kafue, Lower Zambezi and Chobe
Fourteen days turns a falls holiday into a Zambian journey. We keep week one in Livingstone at your own pace, then hand week two to our destination-management side: tailor-made extensions towards Kafue or the Lower Zambezi, or an overnight Chobe stay in place of the single-day dash. Your vehicle travels with the plan. A chauffeured Toyota Hilux 4×4, from $150 per day, handles park and gravel roads comfortably, and the same booking covers your transfers back to the airport at the end. When should you travel?
Season shapes the shortlist more than most guests expect. Devil’s Pool opens on low water from about mid-August, holding through late December and sometimes into early January; rafting runs a similar low-water calendar, and the river typically closes to rafters around April to July at peak flood. Travel between February and July and the falls are at their thunderous fullest — you simply swap the island swim for a flight or a cruise.
The honest answer to “how many days” is therefore a question back: what do you want Livingstone to be? A spectacular long weekend, a full adventure week, or the anchor of a two-week Zambian journey — we plan all three daily.

Can I see Victoria Falls in one day?
You can — a guided falls tour, an aerial flight and a sunset cruise fit into one well-planned day. We would still argue for a second night: Devil’s Pool sittings and the Chobe crossing both reward an unhurried morning.
